The island of Socotra is a place that is unlike any other place. Isolated from the African mainland six million years ago, it feels like a scene from a sci-fi movie. The island is home to incredible and unique plants and trees that you won’t find anywhere else. Two of the most unusual are the Ancient Dragon’s Blood Tree and the Bulbs Bottle Tree. It is definitely one of the most unique places in the world!

Even though Yemen is facing conflict, people are still working hard to protect Socotra’s special environment. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2008. However, it is still difficult to travel there due to the political problems in the area.
Located in the northwest of China’s Hunan Province, these amazing limestone peaks are covered in green and often shrouded in fog. A cable car takes visitors to Huangxi Village, where there are many trails to enjoy the stunning views of Tianzi (‘Son of Heaven’).

These mountains inspired the floating mountains in the movie ‘Avatar’. In 2022, a new visitor center was opened, which provides interactive exhibitions about the geology and cultural importance of the region.
Spotted Lake has long been revered by the local Okanagan (Silox) people, and it’s easy to understand why they consider it sacred. In the summer, the water of the lake evaporates and leaves behind small mineral pools, each colored different in color from the other. The unique lake can be seen on Highway 3 northwest of the small town of Osois, although visitors are told not to trespass on tribal lands.

Since it’s not the easiest place to reach, Spotted Lake is a great example of how custom travel planning can help you go beyond the usual stops, adding lesser-known, culturally important sites to your itinerary without guessing.
